Performance Indicator Information System - DRAFT Annual Report 2005

The report depicts the results of information and data analysis obtained from the PIIS.
During the period 2003-2005, the Technical Secretariat in collaboration with the Ministry of Water and Environment Planning Department) and Yemen Soft developed the Performance Indicator Information System (PIIS). The initial version was installed mid 2004 and more than 100 operators were trained. In 2005 the PIIS was revised and new basic data and performance indicators were added upon the request of the users.

Water Governance in the MENA Region – An international conference in Yemen – Policy brief

The first international Conference on Water Governance in the MENA Region: The Current Situation, took place at Sana’a, Republic of Yemen, 16 – 20 July 2006 and was hosted by the Yemen Ministry of Water and Environment. It was supported by the Yemeni-German Technical Cooperation Water Sector Programme.

Fragile States - Yemen Case Study

The debate on service delivery in fragile states generally assumes that a fragile environment will likely weaken or disrupt (water) service delivery. To a certain extent, this assumption also holds true for the case of Yemen: As many other low income countries, Yemen is still in the difficult process of state-building and continues to be affected by institutional fragility – a situation that gives rise to weak state institutions and organisations and creates difficult framework conditions for all sectoral policies, including water. Nonetheless, the Yemenite case shows that one has to take a close look at each individual policy sector when assessing the impact of state fragility.
