Facilitating Coordination in the Amran Water
Basin
Under the auspices of Noman Duweid, Governor of
Amran, water professionals from GTZ and the Ministry of Water
and Environment as well as Heads of Local Authorities and
members of the Amran Water Coordination Committee met from
February 11-13 to plan and coordinate activities related to
water management in the Amran Basin for the year 2008.
The importance of the planning workshop was heightened by the
fact that the Governor of Amran has declared 2008 the Year of
Water for Amran.
In preparation for the workshop, the Governor of Amran welcomed
the proposal from the Ministry of Water and Environment and GTZ
to hold the official opening in conjunction with this year’s
national World Water Day on March 22 in the city of Amran.
In its current program phase, until June 2009, GTZ IWRM supports
NWRA, the National Water Resources Authority to establish a
basin water management committee and to draft a water resources
management action plan to address issues and solution for the
critically water-stressed Amran basin.
The Governorate of Amran has allocated a substantial proportion
of its annual budget to water projects and water resources
management.
