Implementation Agreement signed

On 7 September 2009 HE, Eng. Abdelrahman Fadhl Al Eryani, Minister of Water and Environment, and Dr Thomas Engelhardt, GTZ Country Director, signed the Implementation Agreement for phase II of the Yemeni-German Technical Cooperation – Water Sector Program. Phase II will build on the achievements of German technical cooperation so far and continue to focus on capacity development in water sector organisations on the national, regional and local level. The program aims to further decentralise urban water supply and water resources management. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has provided EUR 15.8 Mio to implement the program. It is by far the largest donor contribution in capacity development for the water sector. It will therefore play a pivotal role within the sector-wide approach (SWAp) in the water sector in Yemen and the multi-donor program WSSP (Water Sector Support Program).
