“Taste of Teamwork”
Water Basin Committee of Abyan in Aden

For building leadership capacity and to experience the potential and to start functioning as a team, a team-building session with an overall theme of “Taste of Teamwork” was organized by gtz- “Decentralized Water Resources Management”-component during 8-11 May, 2010 in Aden.

Over four consecutive days focusing on developing communication and trust within the team, the Abyan WBC’s members were participating effectively. The presence of the Abyan Governor Mr. Ahmed Al Mysari and others leaders reflected the interest of the local authorities to participate in various activities of the WBC.

As a result of good communication and coordination among the members during this session, some decisions related to the water issues in Abyan were taken in the breaks of the training by the WBC. Most important was the decision to form an irrigation police to control the process of sharing flood water fairly according to the agreed norms and catching the offenders. In addition, it was also decided to have a water police to control the illegal drilling of wells.
