GIZ is Providing Tankers’ Water for Refugees in Abyan
The implications of Abyan crisis on the population these days cannot be denied. A lot of people suffered and left their houses escaping from the fighting that destroyed their homes, hampered their life and hopes. The refugees are facing a difficult daily life suffering from the difficulties to cover their basics needs, important services and on top of all water; the source of life.
With a local subsidy contract made by the Decentralized Water Recourses Management Component of the GIZ Yemen/Water program in
cooperation with the water sector TS Comp.1 supported a local NGO to provide water to the refugees by installing 19 fiber glass tanks in different school camps and remote villages providing water to these tanks on a daily basis for 30 days starting from the day of installation on 15/7, 2011. These tanks were also connected to the local water network to keep sustainability of using these tanks in the future.
It is worth to mention that the work of tanks installation was implemented by Al-Yafeiah charitable society, a local NGO, under the monitoring of Abyan Management Unit of the National Water Resources Authority.
