Working Group on Urban Water Supply and Sanitation met at Ministry of Water and Environment

The Working Group on Urban Water Supply and Sanitation met for the first time after the Joint Annual Review (JAR) on 17 November at Ministry of Water and Environment. The group agreed on terms of reference for its work and procedures for further communication. LC Dhamar has been selected to act as a focal point for coordination. The issues the group discussed included financial matters such as the payment of interest for loans and up-coming foreign aid programmes. In his opening remarks Dr. Mohamed Al Hamdi, Deputy Minister of Water, emphasised the urgent need for establishing a Yemeni Water Utility Association. He strongly advocates such a body in order to enable the water utilities to raise successfully their concerns with the Yemeni government.
