Yemeni Water Utilities sign declaration to
establish National Water Association
A total of 21 Yemeni water and sanitation utilities signed a
declaration on establishing a Yemeni association of the water
and sanitation sector by resuming earlier efforts to enhance the
networking between the decentralized utilities.
The
declaration resulted from a two day workshop organized by the
Personnel Development Component at the Human Resources
Development Centre in Hasaba on 1st and 2nd of June 2010.
At the workshop with the title “Enhancing the Networking
between Water Utilities through a National Association –
Learning from International, Regional and National Experience”,
Mr. Roland Knitschky of DWA (German Association for Water,
Wastewater and Waste) provided an overview of regional and
international experience with associations, Mr. Amin Abdul Karim
Saeed presented his survey of steps already taken in Yemen and
Dr. Faisal Al-Mekhlafi of the Union of Chambers of Commerce &
Industry shared the experience of the chamber system.
Working
groups discussed the various experiences and the expected roles
as well as the membership of the association.
A
foundation committee was formed at the end of the workshop to
facilitate the further process which will receive legal and
technical assistance from the Personnel Development Component of
the Yemeni-German Water Sector Programme.
