Women and Water Crisis Survey

Water shortages in remote local communities are critical in general and most of the burden is put on women shoulders.

The current political crisis has added more difficulties especially in terms of maintaining the water supply either from usual resources or looking for alternative drinkable and affordable water supply options for households. Therefore, GIZ – DWRM with the National Water Resources Authority’s management units and the Water Basin committees implemented a questionnaire in rural areas in four governorates (Abyan, Lahej, Hajjah and Amran) during July, 2011 to collect data and have preliminary data on the crisis implications on women in terms of economic and health effects on the households, as well as to identify the causes of water shortages and search for possible options to access safe water sources with a reasonable cost.

Preliminary results of the questionnaire are still under evalution and disscusion process.
